The urban traffic congestion has become quite a challenge that is puzzling large and medium-sized cities. As for traffic congestion, many scholars believe that the current traffic rules, engineering design and management mechanism in easing congestion aspects are faced with many restrictions. More and more attention is being paid to the study of the social attribute category of urban traffic. With the reality of the urban traffic jam, the social needs for orderly operation within reasonable crowded limit are aroused.This paper is based on the theory of transportation system, the theory of traffic simulation, sociology method and cellular automata theory aiming to study urban transportation system. It has summarized the connotation of city traffic orderliness, and put forward the characteristics of traffic order and evaluation methods. The system structure of the crossings and internal traffic characteristics are analyzed with the crossings as the core. The assessment models of crossings are also given in this paper. Based on the scene investigation, intersection traffic simulation model are designed to realize the operation of intersection of situational cellular automata model.Specifically speaking, the main studied contents of this article are summarized as follows:Firstly, the article stated current status of urban traffic with the congestion as a representation from multi-perspectives and made a summary on the development of the research on the city traffic orderliness and the application of cellular automata at recent time.Secondly, the paper made the introduction of the concept of traffic order and put forward the characteristics of orderliness and evaluation method. The connotation of the crossing orderliness in urban areas, identification of influence factors and construction of the evaluation system calculating model are studied as key points.Thirdly, the traffic situation study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of intersection scene and the factors of intersection Scenario. Through extraction, classification, the system of the crossing Scenario factors is established. Based on the modeling demand factors were made into category. According to the theory of traffic simulation, the analysis and design of the intersection of the simulation model were conducted.Fourthly, the simulated cell models of crossing were realized to simulate the scene of urban crossings and the social characteristics of traffickers, which reflect the complexity of crossings and imitates the operation of crossings.Last but not the least, the model in the paper helped to study the influential factors of orderliness and conducted the simulation study through the example of pedestrian. It also put forward specific suggestions to resolve the problems. What’s more, the shortcomings of this paper are also analyzed here and the main content of the following work are introduced in this paper.
