With the rapid development of wind power industry, as well as the progressive large-scale of the wind turbine equipment, the loss of wind turbine lightning disasters is becoming increasingly serious. In order to reduce the losses caused by disasters of wind turbine’s being struck by lightning, in recent years, the research of lightning disaster risk assessment methodologies is becoming a hot spot. At present, there is no perfect evaluation criterion for wind turbine at home and abroad, therefore, in this paper, according to the particularity of the wind turbine lightning disasters, explore the risk assessment methodology that suitable.In the process of wind turbine being struck by lightning, respectively research the hazards of direct lightning stroke and LEMP, combined with structural features of wind turbine, analysis the particularity of the wind turbine being struck by lightning. In connection with the insufficient of the existing lightning disaster risk assessment methodologies for wind turbine, considering the equipotent connection effect, the effect of shielding layer, the influencing factors of wiring, taking account of secondary damage as a important point in the lightning disaster risk assessment for wind turbine. Through analysis the status of lightning disaster risk assessment in domestic and international, sum up the problems of lightning disaster risk assessment for wind turbine, learn from the related specifications about the calculation method of lightning intercept area, comparative the lack of calculation method, take full account of disturbance factors leading by wind turbine blades to the electric field, propose a calculation suitable for lightning intercept area of wind power equipment.Using this evaluation method to assess the risk of lightning disaster for the wind power facilities in a wind farm, compare the results from existing risk assessment method for the same facilities, comparative the results of each risk component, analysis the data characteristics, combine the faction of wind turbine lightning disasters, analysis the reasonable of this evaluation method, give recommendations for improve the lightning protection engineering based on risk assessment.
