Cone worm gearing is a kind of cross shaft gear drive in space, it has widerange of application, especially in condition when there are demands of such as largetransmission power, compact structure, stable operation, high impact strength, adjustable backlash, and the transmission ratio should be more than medium ormedium, it’s advantage is more obvious. Currently archimedess spiral cone worm isthe most important form of cone worm, as the name suggests the tooth surface isarchimedes spiral surface, since the surface is distorted along the normal direction ofthe straight bus, therefore it is non-developable surface. So far we have advanceddesign and calculation tools, but the design and manufacturing is still very complex, the high precise processing of the tooth surface becomes more difficult, this isconsiderable limitation of the transmission performance improvement. We realizethat the root cause of this difficulty is that we didn’t use a tooth which can meet thetransmission requirements and is suitable for processing. This study of the dual leadstraight contact offset worm drive is to overcome the above shortcomings of toothsurface, tooth surface is cylindrical helical involute, Because it is a developablesurface, there are so much advantages such as the transmission principle is simple, the design and the manufacturing is simple. The double lead spiral worm gearing is a new offset worm drive way. Thetransmission principle is a principle with the crossed axis of the cylindrical helicalgear drive, the tooth surface is cylindrical helical involute surface. The feature is thatit has dual lead,two-way transmission of internal mesh transmission and externalmesh transmission, the instantaneous contact state of the worm is a linear contact. The contents of this paper are mainly the following aspects:1.The analysis shows forming principle of the tooth surface of internal mesh and theexternal mesh of dual lead worm pair, as well as the internal and external meshingtransmission principle, in addition to the course of the campaign.2. First in the case without considering the friction, do the force analysis to theinternal mesh point and external mesh point of the double lead spiral worm gearing,Then specifically consider the teeth friction conditions in the case of internal andexternal gear transmission, when worm gear and worm respectively as the drivingwheel.3. Analyze the main failure modes of double lead spiroid worm gearing, explore thechecking methods of the fatigue and flexural strength of the worm tooth surface contact. And lists some coefficients that influence the tooth surface failure4. Analyze the self-locking performance of the double lead spiroid worm, make aconclusion that when the worm is Initiative, the drive will be self-locking, Andobtained the helix angle size corresponding to the conditions of self-locking.
