The isolated structure is a structural system of passive control. It Reduces the seismic response of structure by setting the isolation device, which changes the way of energy consumption of conventional seismic structure. With the development of the last several decades the basic theory and practical application of the isolated structures become more and more consummate. At present, there are more than twenty countries that have constructed isolated structures in the world. After trial for many years, great superiority of this new type of energy dissipation system has been reflected day by day.This paper studies the isolation performance of the multi-storey frame structures, using isolation structure as the subject. Firstly, the paper described the basic concept of the isolated structure, and the development status of the isolated structure system. Secondly, the paper describes the mechanical properties of laminated rubber isolation bearings, and briefly learns the basic theory of isolation technology. Finally, the article selects a six-story frame buildings in Sichuan Province to establish a model to calculate and analysis, using the finite element analysis software—SAP2000. The calculation consists of modal analysis, response spectrum analysis and dynamic time history analysis. In this paper, EL-Centro and Tangshan wave are used to calculate the dynamic response of the two structures in the earthquake from six degree to nine degree. The data of the analysis showed that, the story displacement of the upper structure of the isolation system significantly decreases, compared with conventional seismic structure, and the internal forces of components have been greatly improved. After further comparison, it is found that, in a certain range, the isolated structure is more suitable for strong earthquake zone. In addition, the paper analyzed the parameter settings of the isolation bearing briefly, and than had a preliminary understanding of the main factors of the isolation bearing performance and its variation.
