Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) simulator is widely used in radiant susceptibility test. The mechanism of the test system involves several aspects such as spatial and temporal field distribution, energy transfer, and geometric structure. Thus, it is very important and significant to study the system’s electromagnetic properties and geometric effects in practical applications. In order to have the test system fully absorbed in, based on electromagnetic theory, the dissertation sets up a model of RSI05test system by Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method. The definite contents are as follows:Principles and indicators of the RSI05are analyzed on the basis of consulting a large number of relevant literatures; Modeling of the test system is carried out with FDTD method, by which the electromagnetic properties of the test space are gained through simulation; Accordingly, relationship between the test system parameters and the transmission lines’geometric structure is discussed as well. In addition, the electromagnetic leakage of the transmission lines and the requirements of the test site are taken into account. The results are as follows:The internal electric field distribution of the test system is in uniform, which tends to decrease along the propagation direction on both sides of the transmission line; The electric field in border zone is slightly lower, while the electric field closed to the middle of simulator is relatively higher; Electric field is symmetric along the central axis of the simulator; The transmission lines’angles of front-end or rear-end affect the pulse waveform; There is electromagnetic leakage near the system along the transmission line, but it decays rapidly as the distance from the test boundary increases; To the system which has amplitude of3kV/m,when the distance increases to1.8m, the electric field is less than30V/m after attenuation, which has small effect on the surrounding environment; When the system is placed indoor, and the distance to the wall is over1.2m, the effects of reflection on electric field can be disregarded.
