Technological design is a complex and uncertain activity, which is not only restricted byenterprise resource, economic conditions and technical conditions, but also needs designers’design level and experience. In order to make these design resources and precious designexperience available in the later design, on the basis of referring to the relevant information athome and abroad, This paper takes shaft part of the rotational part as study object, it greatlyrealizes technological variant design of shaft part by customizing holistic technologicaltemplates and feature-based technological templates for the parts in combination withparameterized design method.Firstly, research backgrounds of CAPP are introduced and the research statuses at homeand abroad are summarized. technological formulating principle and establishing method ofparts and parametric variant design principle and technological variant design principle ofparts are elaborated, main framework of the system is constructed.Secondly, The parametric design of technological templates as leading clue, research thekey technologies of part on emphasis are as follow:(1)Division of part family and the modeling of part family, the division of part family isthe foundation of technological variant design based on the technological templates. It adoptsthe method of reducing materials which goes in accordance with actual processing, it alsomust combine with the maximization principle of part modeling in order to support the variantof part process picture sheet, and it is closely connected with part process picture sheet by using the design thought of configuration.(2)Description of the parts information, the input of parts information is the key point ofthe realization of parts technological variant, processing methods of each shaft section can bedecided by inputting their characteristic information, the blank dimension of parts can becalculated by inquiring processing method and their corresponding allowance.(3) The process variant design technology of manufacturing features, the feature processtemplate of part each manufacturing feature was built. Taking the template as the basis, thefeatures process consistent with the actual process can be obtained according to theparameters of part manufacturing features.(4) Parameterization of parts technological templates, it mainly refers to variable parts intemplate expressed in the form of parameters, constant contents fixed, technological design ofnew parts can be accomplished by updating and replacing parameters.(5)Retrieval and revise of parts process, technological procedures that similar to the newparts can be retrieved in the parts technological template library, new technologicalprocedures will be generated by revising similar technological template and they can beretrieved next time when put into template library.Finally, Research the process modeling designing and configuration management of partfamily, and realizes the process technological variant design of part on the basic of aboveresearch, and a prototype system is developed which taking shaft parts as an example.
