There has been407miriad milimetre highway in China at present, including8.5miriad milimetre expressway. Asphalt pavement application very wide. It is one of the primary structures for highway in China. According to the investigation of asphalt pavement, pavement destruction such as flow rutting、top-down cracking、inter-layer slippage of asphalt pavement on intersections and large longitudinal slope has direct relation to the high stress level in the asphalt pavement especially the shear stress and asphalt mixtures shear flow deformation resistance capacity. The studying of asphalt pavement shear stress and asphalt mixtures shear flow deformation resistance capacity has been conducted on two aspects about theoretical analysis and test study. On the one aspect, this paper based on elastic layered system make finite element analysis of semi-rigid asphalt pavement shear stress. The shear stress distribution regularities and maximum of shear and its direction are achieved. The locations of the shear stress and tensile stress were compared with load cracking characteristics and the maximum stress was compared with stress strength as well. The analysis shows that the major reason of asphalt pavement load cracking is shear stress not tensile stress. On the other aspect, This paper based on fractal theory analyzes the micro structure of asphalt mixture AC-13、SMA-13、Sup-13and its volume fractal dimension was determined. Discusses the relation between asphalt mixtures volume fractal dimension and shear property by triaxial repeated load creep tests. Finally, this paper puts forward reasonable suggestion about prevention shear failure on asphalt pavement by the research results. The shear failure on asphalt pavement for heavy-loading is an urgent problem at present. The conclusion has important significance for improvement and development asphalt pavement design、guaranteeing safe driving、increasing asphalt pavement service life and lessen construction and maintenance costs.
