As a milling equipment, The ball mill is widely used in a variety of industries, and plays a great role. The ball mill is a high energy consumption equipment, how to reduce the energy consumption and improve the efficiency is the main research direction of ball mill. Therefore, to develop a new mill and optimize the key parameters have great significance to improve the ball mill’s efficiency.The object of this thesis is nutation ball mill, it is a new ball mill that uses the design principles of nutation, which can be used for fine grinding, superfine grinding material. When the nutation mill runs, the strong impact and friction will occur between abrasive and abrasive or wall of cavity, this phenomenon is very complicated. In order to optimize the parameters of ball milling, improve the nutation ball mill’s efficiency, we need to study the ball’s movement patterns and rules in the cavity.In order to simulation the milling medium’s movement pattern in the cavity, this thesis used the ADAMS to build a virtual prototype of ball mill, optimized the ball mill’s key design parameters by researched the milling medium’s movement pattern.Firstly, this paper introduced the issue’s source and background, and the ball mill’s new research of domestic and foreign. Then given the nutation ball mill’s structure and its principle of work, described the methods of built the ball mill’s virtual prototype model based on ADAMS, analyzed how to select the simulation parameters in detail. Secondly, simulated the ball’s movement patterns in single ball case and fully loaded case respectively, and the ball mill’s speed and nutation angle how to impact on the ball’s movement patterns. And then built the ball mill’s virtual prototype model based on Solidworks Motion, compared the simulation results with ADAMS, we can get the conclusion that the virtual prototype model built in ADAMS is correct. On the basis of above, calculated the strength and life of spindle and bearing, spindle and bearing are the main parts of nutation ball mill, These conclusion provided the basis for the nutation ball mill’s design. Finally, made some simple study by experiment on the prototype of nutation ball mill. In short, through the dynamics of the nutation ball mill, this paper make some suggestion for the optimization to improve the nutation ball mill’s design. As a new milling equipment, through the further research to improve the nutation ball mill’s performance has important significance.
