| Due to the introduction of new technology abroad as well as many western architects in China, a huge impact has had on the system of traditional Chinese architecture in modern China. Pagoda, as one of the important types of traditional architecture, has its own shape features and the inheritance system since the Wei and Jin Dynasty. The westerns concerned of the Chinese Pagoda for a long time. So The image of the pagoda appears in the philosophy, program, planning and projects in that time.This paper analyzes the philosophy, technology, analysis of Murphy and the westerners’view of Chinese pagoda in the same period. It outlines the concept of the relevant persons for the pagoda through three levels and selects traditional pagoda, the tower of Westerners designed, the shape of the monuments designed by the Chinese at that time as a reference.Targeted at "A Pagoda-Tower for the Heroes of the Revolution", the thesis introduces the background of building the pagoda and analyzes its pattern and technology comparing with the relevant cases, and summarizes Murphy’s architectural ideas.The introduction section first introduces the thesis purpose, main contents, structure and existing research results. The second chapter is talking about changes of the Westerners’ understanding of the process of Chinese pagoda. The following two chapters focus on the background, pattern, technology and other issues of the "Pagoda-Tower". The fifth chapter generalizes Murphy’s architectural concept and viewpoint of the pagoda. The last section summarizes the full-text and points out the direction for further study.This "Pagoda-tower" explores a possibility-how to combine new technology with traditional patterns. Murphy seeks to "adaptive" optimization in all aspects, but without losing the pattern of the Chinese Pagoda.In this paper, the method of pattern analysis is not enough.
