With the realization of national network, the generator’s excitation system is shown more and more important role in the stable operation of the Power Grid. Excitation system maintains generator terminal voltage at a stable level by adjusting excitation voltage of the generator. Its dynamic characteristic has significant effect on power system stability level, which has become the industry consensus. Thus, each excitation regulator manufacturers have made unremitting efforts, such as the development of the digital regulator,which has higher precision and convenient parameter adjustment, leading that the share of digital excitation system in the power grid have already amounted to80%-90%; but some problems about the excitation system in the design, manufacture, commissioning and operation have been found in the parameters testing work launched in recent years, which causes the power grid operation and management personnel’s attention.This paper firstly discusses the working principle and operating mode about excitation system briefly, and then studies and researches the model of the synchronous generator excitation system, highlights the full digital power system simulator (ADPSS, Advanced Digital Power System Simulator) developed by the China Electric Power Research Institute and the fifth generation of EXC6000type full digital static excitation device developed by Guangzhou Qingtian industrial limited company. Within physical interface devices, ADPSS can be connected with the actual physical devices, doing digital physical hybrid simulation, which can carry on the experimental programmer that are difficult to achieve at the site. Using computer controlling, and absorbing the advanced excitation control method, EXC6000has the characteristics of software-controlling function, digital system to do intelligent test.Based on ASPSS, the research uses parallel technology which can ensure the high speed calculation, achieves a real-time simulation about the excitation of the generator excitation device and the transient behavior of Power Grid Access process. According to the generator no-load excitation test and the the adjust experimental of the power in Power Grid Access, tests the fifth generation of EXC6000type full digital static excitation device and the EXC6000type full digital static excitation device. In order to understand the performance of the EXC6000series excitation device and the control mode of the excitation system, The study takes comparison test, as well as part of the dynamic performance test on pure digital simulation and hybrid simulation of digital physical excitation device, the influence of excitation system transient stability and static stability on the excitation device was studied as well, has an important guide meaning in the analysis of the power grid stability used by ADPSS in the future, and the important reference valuefor the promote and industrialization of the EXC6000series excitation device in the future.
