According to statistics, there are maybe1/6to1/4of cable-stayed bridges are single pylon cable stayed bridges.The traditional researches mostly focused on double pylon cable-stayed bridges and scarcely on single pylon cable-stayed bridges.In this paper, we firstly sum up the existing research results and the problems required further study are presented. Then we analyzed one single tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge, by using FEM programs MIDAS and ANSYS. The results are as follow:Firstly the static performance of the girder, cables and towers were investigated by global FEM model. The girder under construction state was also analyzed by the backward-calculation method. Furthermore the dynamic characteristic of the global bridge was studied, such as the resistant of earthquake. The results show that the static and dynamic performances of the bridge satisfy the requirement of the related codes and it proves to be reliable.Secondly on the base of global analysis, the local stress distribution of the single pylon cable-stayed bridge was researched, such as the stress of the pylon hoop prestress and the anchor zone of the girder. The results show that the stresses are under the limits of codes.These research results of asymmetric single tower cable-stayed bridge in this paper could be reference for design and construction.
