Earthquake disaster has sudden, severe, unpredictability and so on characteristics. Once the earthquake disaster happens, it would lead to the huge property damage and loss of life of the country and people. To prevent and reduce the damage from the earthquake to humans, in recent years, the structural vibration control has become the focus of research of many scholars, because of the wide application of the viscoelastic dampers and the optimal placement of dampers occupying an extremely important position in structural vibration control, therefore, viscoelastic dampers’positions optimization will be taken as a research focus in this paper. Thisarticle mainly include the following respects:1. To deduce the basic principle of force method. Analysised the process of energy conversion of structure in the earthquake using the force analogy method, define the structure’s energy conversion process in the earthquake and structural components’energy consumption. Some steel frame structure’s energy consumptions under four groups of seismic waves were calculated through MATLAB, offerring data reference for position indexes’calculating of optimal placement of dampers.2. Existing location optimum methods of viscoelastic dampers were studied and compared. through summing up can see, in the available position optimization methods, application more are iterative approximation method and the weight coefficient method. because the two methods can not make the damper’s positions optimization be accurate to each span, in this term, two new location optimum methods, which named energy method and improved weight coefficient method, were proposed. This two methods can confirm dampers’locations at once and be accurate to each span, but also without circular calculating.3. By means of the existing location optimization for viscoelastic dampers and the position of the newly proposed optimization method, the same conditions of the damper location optimization were calculated. Through comparing seismic response of structure with control of the different methods, advantages and disadvantages of the newly proposed optimization method were evaluated compare to the existing methods, thereby, a few helpful conclusions on viscoelastic dampers’optimal placement are made.
