Ship is one of the main transports in the world. Marine Power System is called the "heart" of ship. So it is very important to improve the efficiency of power system, reduce fuel oil consumption, enlarge the cargo space under limited displacement of different kinds of vessels. As the global energy and resources sharply reduce, using the natural energy resources more effectively and reasonably to ensure economic continuously development is the basic and key point, so the ship energy saving is also very important.Marine power system include diesel engine propulsion system, steam turbine propulsion systems, gas turbine promote series and electric propulsion system. Diesel engine power system is widely used in small and medium type of ship, and steam propulsion system is widely used in large ships and LNG carrier. This article is mainly regarding the design and economic analysis for diesel engine power systems and steam turbine power system. The design and economic analysis in this paper is mainly for two kinds of ships, one is76,000Tonnage Oil Tanker, The other is74000m3LNG Carrier. The design plan with high economy and efficiency will be recommended as result.In this paper, we will also talk about the method for Control of Emissions from Ships, the control for SOx and NOx in the exhaust air, to fulfill the recent international regulations. Based on the above economic analysis, we get the conclusion that diesel engine propulsion system is more economical than steam turbine propulsion systems in the sides of initial invest and Fuel oil consumption; While the steam turbine propulsion systems is more advance than diesel engine propulsion system in the other side such as maintenance, lubricating oil consumption and so on.Considering overall balance, the diesel engine propulsion system is more economic power system. This power system will reduce the cost and energy consumption, and get high economy and efficiency.
