With the development of national economy and the improvement of people’s living standard. The market requires the generator set in businesses have good peaking capacity. Therefore how to ensure the safe operation of the unit is even more important. Steam turbine is one of the most important component of thermal power units. Turbine cylinder is an important component of flow part in the turbine, it can be approximated as a sealed container. Because that its structure is complex and it also suffers from high temperature and high pressure of steam when in operation, it will easily lead to the occurrence of local fission, cylinder bolt fracture, horizontal joint leakage of such phenomena, which seriously endanger the safe operation of the unit. This paper focuses on the strength and deformation of the turbine cylinder.With the development of modern design methods, computer-aided tools, the strength of the organization’s checking and analyzing, the design of the organization’s optimizing become the primary means of product updates, which make the product design improvements easier to achieve. In modern product development,the extensive use of CAD/CAE/CAM integration methods and means, the finite element method is the main method of CAE. That plays an important role in improving product quality, shortening design cycles, reducing product development cost, which makes products more competitive in the market.Based on finite element theory, using large general-purpose software AN SYS workbench integration platform researches high-pressure cylinder strength and structural optimization:(1) To establish the finite element model of high-pressure cylinder. Establish a three-dimensional geometric model by Solidworks, according to the analysis requirements, reasonable simplify the unit model. Based on the simplification of the model, grid is divided, by taking hexahedral mesh based hybrid grid painting and block meshing thought, through the control grid and grid quality inspection and evaluation, which guarantees the correctness of the calculation.(2) To calculate the strength of high-pressure cylinder under different conditions. According to the actual engineering requirements, respectively calculate the strength of cylinder under hydrostatic test and typical operating conditions. Analysis of results shows that the stress and deformation of high-pressure cylinder and bolt strength can meet the strength requirements, however on the7th and the10th bolt at the cylinder body, small gaps appear on the surface. but it still meets the requirements of the safe use.(3) To optimize the improvement of high-pressure cylinder. Through the finite element analysis, put forward some optimize improvement scheme to ensure the safety of the unit operation based on the results of the analysis. which get the ideal result.
