Large commercial vehicles not only play an important role in the national production and social life, but also have an irreplaceable status in engineering construction, logistic transport, special transportation and etc. At the same time, There are a lot of reports of large commercial vehicle accidents in our life. Such accidents often lead to casualties because of the vehicle’s huge body, high load, inflexible steering and etc. Large commercial vehicles caused serious potential safety hazards for people’s life and property and the subsequent consequences are very serious. Therefore, the research on how to avoid collisions of large commercial vehicles is very significant.Collision factors can be analyzed from three aspects:drivers, vehicles and driving environments; the major factors of accidents caused by drivers are fatigue driving, drunken driving, and distracted driving (making phone calls, diverting attention, etc.). Visual blind spot and inner wheel difference of the vehicle itself can also lead to accidents. At the same time, if pedestrians outside the car or the other vehicles fail to obey the traffic regulations, accidents may also be caused. Based on the factors of commercial vehicle itself, which can be most easily controlled, this paper tries to solve the potential safety hazards.According to the analysis of a large number of related traffic accident cases, this paper gives an account of the two great factors-visual blind spot and inner wheel difference-from theory to practice. Besides, the lateral safety distance model, existing in the current academic circles, was elaborated and mathematically analyzed. Thereafter, the construction of the database was revised on the basis of China’s actual road traffic conditions and large commercial vehicle characteristics. Afterwards, the author produced the final safe vehicle interval form.This article compares several ranging methods in the alarm system and finally chooses the Ultrasonic ranging method which contains the phase detection and the round-trip time detection. The latter is adopted in this paper because it meets the requirements of the system related as well as its low cost. In addition, this paper analyzes the elements leading to the attenuation of ultrasonic wave in the process of propagation, and selects40kHz as the ultrasonic frequency in the system for its less attenuation and better directivity.Ultrasonic ranging hardware system composes of (a)the master chip, AT89S52, core of the system,(b)Ultrasonic Transmission Circuit,(c)Ultrasonic receiving circuit,(d)Temperature compensation module, made of DS18B20temperature transmitter, and (e)Display Module, with character type1602LCD as its core. Experiments verify that the system is valuable and reliable.
