In recent years, distributed generation holds more and more shares in electric power system and become an important field of energy development. As it has so many advantages such as improving quality of the electric energy and reliability of the power supply, reducing network losses and reducing environmental pollution. However, distributed generation has the feature of randomness and dispersion the whole system’s safety and stability will be affected if lots of distributed generation access to distribution networks, such as power loss, power quality, voltage stability, power supply reliability and so on.Based on the research at home and abroad, this paper focuses on studying distribution network expansion planning with distributed generation. Firstly, the conception of distributed generation is introduced, the affection of economic efficiency, operation and planning of distribution network are analyzed detailed. Secondly, the optimization model of distribution network expansion planning is proposed, not only include the capacity of the original cost, operation and maintenance costs, purchased power costs and the cost of network losses, but also include the environmental compensation cost that reflects the environment-friendly characteristics of distributed generation. In order to solve the objective function, an improved cultural algorithm based on differential evolution is improved. The feasibility of the presented model and algorithm is verified by an example.
