Due to providing renewable energy to the grid, world has paid attention to the distributed power. It has advantage in reducing environmental pollution, enhancing the power quality and power supply reliability. Nowadays, many countries have brought the access of distributed power into the national grid long-term planning, and the power generation proportion of distributed power increases yearly. However, the connecting of distributed power into grid also brings some problems, such as, the change of system load flow, the effect of relay protection, voltage out of range and the increasing of short circuit current. Therefore, the study of distributed power has important significance. For the study of distributed power, reasonable access location and access capacity become a research focus. Based on the analysis of literature of siting and sizing of distributed power, this paper introduces the concept and classification of distributed power, the effect to distribution network operation, the conception of siting and sizing of distributed power and distribution network planning requirements. Under the consideration of load increasing and maximum capacity of distributed power generation, this paper establishes the multi-objective optimization model of siting and sizing of distributed power. The objective function includes distributed power investment costs, distribution costs distribution network loss expenses and distribution network upgrade and maintenance costs. Secondly, this paper employs ICA which is suitable for multi-objective solution. Aiming at the premature convergence of this algorithm, this paper applies differential evolution improvement strategy into ICA. By using the information exchange between the colonies, the proposed model obtains the excellent individuals while enhancing the diversity of the population, thus can make up the defects such as premature convergence. This paper put up with the improved ICA model in the optimization of siting and sizing of distributed power. After the application in 46-node distribution network, the results shows that, the proposed model is effective and efficient, and the optimization of siting and sizing of distributed power can reduce the distribution line grid investment and loss costs, and bring enormous social and economic benefits.
