Partial discharge measuring and testing technique is a focus question for the insulation test of high voltage cable and cable termination. Choosing an effective PD measuring system that is convenient for fieldwork is very important. In this paper, a kind of PD measuring system for high voltage cables and its application in Beijing is introduced. PDCheck realized the separation and identification of discharge pulse. Whole pulses was taken in using a high-speed broad band sampling system at first, then discharge pulses were separated from noises by character which was calculated from pulses, and discharge types were ascertained at last.Tests in the high voltage laboratory show that the amplitude-frequency characteristics, system resolution and linearity of PDCheck equipment can meet the requirements, and detect the partial discharge signals effectively under the man-made cable defects.Through the partial discharge detection of XLPE cable with110kV (or above) level under different operation environment such as substations, terminal stations, power tunnel in Beijing area,a number of cable equipment defects, and their adjacent electrical equipment defects are detected successfully with well application performance.
