A Study On The Design Of The Green Landscape Of Urban Roads In Guangzhou

Being an important symbol of the city image and a sort of precious historical andcultural resources, the green landscape of the urban roads witnesses the changes of thecity over a long time.Guangzhou, as a leader in the design of the green landscape in urban roads from1950s to1990s in the Pearl River Delta, attracted many small cities aroundGuangzhou to follow its green trend. With the pace of reform and opening upaccelerating, the previous “green belt” has been upgraded to the green space which isecological, beautiful and sustainable in development. Many main domestic cities inChina tried to explore the most ideal model for the construction of the greenlandscape based on the advanced experiences abroad. Guangzhou also tried to reformthe construction of the green landscape for several times, making significantcontributions to the construction of the green landscape.Guangzhou witnessed two large-scale green landscape reconstructions from2005to2010. The first reconstruction started from2005, also named the37Green RoadsUpgrade Projects, with the natural, ecological and floweriest style as its main tone.The other “Four in One Urban Roads Updating Projects” kicked off from2009, withthe open, tidy and wide as its main style. Making great efforts for5years in theconstruction of the green landscape, Guangzhou has formed a special constructionstyle and found the balance point between the high development and the sustainabledevelopment of the ecological environment.This article focuses on the construction of the green landscape of the urban roadsin Guangzhou, trying to explore the advantages and disadvantages in thereconstructions. This article takes the updating project of the green landscape alonethe Dongfeng Road as an example, discussing the design method of the projects. Themain purpose of the study is to promote the improvement of the design level of thegreen landscape in Guangzhou and provide some references for related projects in thefuture.
