Accelerated as the urbanization process in China, the quarrying industries are increasing, as well as their scales, have been largely developed. However, with economic restructure adjusting regularly, the traditional quarrying gradually deteriorated, resulting in a large number of abandoned quarries which gave rise to numerous ecological problems and even social problems, which has gradually caught public attention. Due to the fact that some regions in China have made several practical explorations on landscape transformation and ecological rehabilitation of abandoned quarries, how to excavating the site’s unique landscape resources, showing its history traces and making wasteland revitalize have become a subject worthy of study.The object of this study is located in the west side of the Shuilian Mountain in Dongguan City, taken as the site of mining for building stone since the late1990s. The mountain has been severely damaged, bringing about a tremendous impact on the ecological environment and landscape. This paper defined the concept and meaning of the ecological rehabilitation and landscape reconstruction of wasted quarrying area on the basis of literature review and made a comparative analysis on classic cases of the abandoned quarry landscape transformation at home and abroad, then extracted significant ideas and design methods from the cases providing theoretical foundation for the program proposed. Meanwhile, this paper analyzed the regional characteristics, the natural and cultural conditions of the Shuilian Mountain abandoned quarry through on-site investigation, then proposed long-term and short-term ecological rehabilitation planning respectively on the basis of the overall landscape envisaged. In the planning and design process, the research has fully excavated the site feature and distinctively analyzed the mining face from processing by retaining walls in ground part of texture. In order to make it diversity, the study faced the site most of the features of the terrain and used a variety of treatment. At the same time, it entirely extracted the site of existing elements of landscape and culture, which would be integrated into the site design, putting forward the Shuilian Mountain quarry ecological rehabilitation and landscape reconstruction design.As an industrial waste land whose post-industrial landscape features are not obvious, quarries have some characteristics different from general waste land. Through specific analysis of the project that rehabilitation and reconstruction the landscape of waste quarry in Shuilian Mountain, this paper try to make full use of the field of original landscape elements as the main starting point of design method for minimizing the change of venue, so as to realize the original site interpretation and provide certain referenced value for the similar venues of planning and design in the future.
