Polyvinyl Alcohol-Engineered Cementitious Composite(PVA-ECC)technology is a newmethod to reinforce the concrete structure and masonry structure.Depending on the fineproperties of the materials and the fine cohesion of the boundary agent,both the forrocementlayer and the pre-component work harmoniously are as a whole.It has such advantages asimproving the structures’ stiffness,compressive resistance,tensile,bending,shear and otherproperties with little enlargement of section area.Besides, PVA fiber reinforced mortar is a kindof material with well fire resistance,corrosion resistance and durability. Therefore, this methodwill be widely used in both research and application.Through on monotonic loading comparison experiment of8square columns, consideredprimary load strengthened columns seriously about the different eccentricity and the differentspacing of reinforcing net bars,which have influence on the ultimate load carryingcapacity,mode of failure,load versus mid-span laterall deflection curves and crackingbehavior,etc.of strengthened eccentric compression columns are anlalyzed. Test results haveindicated that PVA-ECC steel mesh techology can greatly increase load bearing capacity, peakstrain, ductility, stiffness and crack resistance of strengthened square columns.the formula ofcalculating its bearing capacity is set up by considering the effectively confined area and theineffectively confined area in the column section and interface shear transfer,then compared theformula values with the experimental values,which provide the basis for selectionspecifications of reinforcing net bars;Also according to the test results of the analysis,the peakstrain formula of the core concrete is concluded,then the two-phase constitutive model ofreinforced concrete columns which are confined are given.Nonlinear finite element methods is employed to simulate the process of the loadingtest,which obain the specimen’s bearing capacity,crack distribution,and the distribution of thereinforcement layer’s stress and strain, then the test values are compared with the results ofmodel, in order to testify the effectivity of strengthening method.Finally,the application of the Polyvinyl Alcohol-Engineered Cementitious Composites(PVA-ECC) technology is illustrated through a project example.the construction technologyare proposedfor the sake of the spread of this technology applying in practice project.
