With the large grid interconnection in full swing, the grid structure, control and operation mode will be more complex. And the voltage and reactive power of the pass rate issue has become increasingly important. The operators need timely grasp the stability of the system, there is an urgent need about the fast and accurate analysis of power system steady-state flow control situation. As a research tool for load flow, the PowerWorld software contains a variety of large and complex functions, for example, power flow calculation, reactive power optimization, voltage stability analysis, etc. In this paper, the study through the PowerWorld software for the stability of voltage and reactive power problem in the steady-state conditions contains the following four specific areas:(1) First, describes the structure and the operation of Guilin grid. Through the change of the power wiring and the network structure, analyzes the network operation of220and110kV in Guilin grid, which focuses on the characteristics of load, reactive power and the system voltage in Guilin grid, caused by the energy distribution and the seasonal characteristics.(2) Introduces the Powerworld software. The software is an visualization of large scale power system analysis and calculation procedures, which can solve many as100,000nodes in large complex power systems. It offers many common use algorithms. PowerWorld software operates simple and convenient, using in the analysis, planning and design, real time online analysis, ect.(3) According to the wiring, calculates the parameters of electrical components, and builds the model of Guilin grid. (4) Uses the PowerWorld software and selects the typical operation mode of Guilin grid in2010, and220kV facilities of N-1analysis for calculation and analysis. Through the simulation, verifys the role of PowerWorld software in the steady-state power flow analysis for Guilin grid, in which focuses on how to ensure the voltage and the power factor of the monitor points through the PowerWorld Software’s prediction and analysis, when the grid appears the typical load, for example, the maximum or minimum load and overload on the tie-line or main transformers caused by a large number of surplus or gap about active power.
