Along with the globalization sourcing trend, China’s auto parts enterprise must strengthen independent research and development capacity. After introducing into absorb, independent research and development of test positive cycle, enhance their core competition ability. Parametric design can improve these parts of the factory independent development ability, reduce a lot of low efficiency of labor, can undertake series design, improve the design efficiency greatly shorten the development cycle of the products. Parametric design can improve part factory independent development ability, reduce a lot of low efficiency of work. Series design improve the design efficiency and greatly shorten the development cycle of the products.Main reducer is the important constituent of automotive transmission.It can increased torque and slow down the speed. The design quality of main reducer has very big effect of the power, economy, vibration noise, long service life for the vehicle. The main reducer applies to parametric design for its similar structure and high design repeat rate.This paper establish a parametric design system for3D model of the main reducer, base on CATIA and VB. Through the input parameters (number of teeth, pressure Angle and so on) in man-machine interface get the main reducer size and3D model. This model is an accurate parameter model for processing in strict spherical involute theory. It can also be imported into the finite element software for contact analysis strength verification. If strength analysis is not qualified, the system can easily get a new modal by modificating parameters, then again analysis. While All Procedures save a lot of time and energy.The preliminary finite element of main reducer apply by finite element software ABAQUS. The analysis choice suitable unit types and impose appropriate load and boundary conditions to simulate the reduction gear meshing process. It analysis the size and the distribution situation of surface contact stress and tooth root bending stress, in order to the front parametric design provides some improvement measures.The main reducer gear often work in high speed and the large load conditions. Under the effect of vibration, gear pair maybe get great destruction and even damage gear failure. It did modal analysis to the main reducer, calculated the top ten natural frequencies and mode shapes which provide the theoretical basis for avoiding resonance in practice. Finally it made a summary of the full text and gave some lacks and prospects of the research.
