As we know, transmission capability analysis plays an important role in power system, the capability closed relations with the development of the power industry. From the monopolized mechanism to the competitive market, the research about transmission capability has already been done deeply, and the methods based on many kinds of thoughts makes the studies above more and more colorful, however, the contents which substantially pay attention to the safety of the power system changed a little. The available transmission capability is analyzed in the passage based on distribution factors in DC load flow. Here the research background, actuality and the development trend in future and the principle of many research methods about ATC are introduced in details. Furthermore, without the considerations of the resistance, the changes of node voltage and the reactive power, the character of the system can be reflected only by one component called reactance. On the basis of repeated flow and P-Q flow, we can get one linear model named DC load flow model and many kinds of distribution factors, which can calculate the ATC quickly, no matter what on normal situation or under many constrains of transmission line and generators or contingency. At the same time, in order to improve the precision, reactive power is taken into account. According to such a method, we can analysis transmission capability as soon as possible and supply one kind of advice for modern power market’s bilateral or multilateral trades, or has enough time to take measures to cope with contingency now or later.By the study with the spatial power flow of EHV and UHV transmission line, this paper finds the principal limitations to the line load ability, and points out the difference of the way mentioned above and the traditional method that monitor the line terminals. Further, we study the affection between line load ability and the spatial power flow, when the series/parallel compensation is added.
