Historical and cultural city is a symbol of local history culture, and also the history footprint of a city. It gives us peculiar historical context for every city in the long process of historical development. It is the centralized embodiment about the humanity deep cultural tradition and course information of social development. However, citiy characteristics of cultural heritage like historical heritage of traditional houses, historical block and even some cultural relics are gradually disappearing in the development economic and urban construction, leding to city characteristic crisis and cultural crisis. Then some experts and scholars began to reconsider the importance of historical city’s significance historical and deployed the research of historical city protection, which made the historical city protection system perfect.Yan’an is the cradle of Chinese revolution, and the one of the State Council first announced historical and cultural city. This paper makes a detailed study about Yan’an city’s special features based on reading a lot of references and materials of Yan’an, and makes a field investigation and has interviews with citizens. The article uses the methods of analysis, arrangement, summarizing the city of Yan’an landscape elements. The paper applies the method of comparison and analysis to summarizing problems appearing in the process of Yan’an d evelopment, and then gets the countermeasures to protect the historical and cultural city, Yan’an.This paper expounds the background and realistic significance about the concept of historical and cultural city, and puts forward the importance and the urgency of planning protection studied about the historical and cultural city. The paper summarizes the historical conditions and urban development course of Yan’an city, providing a classification system about making of Yan’an historical and cultural city’s landscape elements and giving an elaborate expounding.Based on these premises, the article analyses the city landscape protection status and the problems in the process of unban development, and puts forward some planning countermeasures for Yan’an city’s landscape protection. And with Yan’an waterfront wetland landscape planning for case study, this paper comes up with the direction and philosophy of Yan’an city’s landscape planning. Hopefully, the conclusion to the protection of historical and cultural city landscape planning can play the role in similar city planning. Finally, the author presents the deficiencies of the research on the basis of summarizing in the article content, and looks forward to the future of the historical and cultural city’s landscape protection planning and urban development construction work.
