The Technique And Management Of Masonry Structure’s Seismic Strengthening For Primary And Middle School Buildings

A magnitude-8.0earthquake hit the Wenchuan County which is located in31.08northlatitude, longitude103.48in Sichuan Province at14:28on May12,2008.The earthquake withfocal depth of15kilometers and epicentral intensity of11degrees has a strongly destructiveeffect on the county. A large scale of school buildings were destroyed, part of the schooldormitory even collapsed in the earthquake. This causes more attention to the safety andseismic ability of the school buildings.Since2009, the state council had issued the deployment that the government wouldimprove the level of security of unsafe school buildings in various urban and rural areas withhigh-intensity of over seven degrees earthquake, flood disaster, landslides and debris flowseasily happened in order to roundly improve security situation of the primary and middleschool.Survey data shows that the brick structure makes a large proportion in the structure typesof the school, nursery school buildings in Beijing at this stage. As is known to us, brickstructure tends to occur earthquake damage easily for its brittleness nature. As the schoolbuilding with less cross wall, the earthquake damage occurs especially easily when the wallcan not hold the earthquake force caused by strong earthquake intensity. Based on theexample analysis of the north and south teaching buildings of the affiliated high school ofBeijing Polytechnic University in the reinforcement project, the paper put a detailedinterpretation about the seismic strengthening design of masonry structure, constructiontechnology and the engineering characteristics of construction management.The paper aimedat providing a guidance for the reinforcement and reconstruction projects of other middleand primary school in Beijing.
