Fair-faced concrete, also known as decorative concrete, is cast at a time and decorated with natural texture of the concrete and out seam, zenseam and tie-bolt on it. Its surface is smooth, profile is clear, line is proper, color is uniform. Compared with the traditional concrete works, it has the advantage of reducing the construction process, shortening the construction period, reducing quality defects, reducing security risks, reducing the project cost, better durability and better weatherability, and has good economic and social benefits. Besides, fair-faced concrete can reduce the use of building decoration materials and construction waste, and can get good environmental benefits. Its aesthetic effect from the dignified simplicity of the natural texture, which matches China’s cultural traditions and its own technical and economic advantages, makes it especially suitable for China.There are some fair-faced concrete buildings in China. However, they are mainly multistoried buildings or local structures, structural design and construction of high-rise concrete construction need further research and practice to improve.This paper mainly introduces the whole construction technology throughout the construction process, from selection of raw materials, preparation of fair-faced concrete, construction process, to engineering applications, as follows.(1) Selection of raw materials. The influence of raw materials to the surface of the fair-faced concrete should be taken into consideration. Suitable cement, aggregate, admixture, chemical additive and their use method and amount should be determined according to the fair-faced concrete functional requirements.(2) Preparation of fair-faced concrete. The mixed concrete should have the desired strength, durability, fluidity, anti-segregation, which can meet the design requirements. Besides, shrinkage should also be considered to avoid concrete cracks. Mixing strength and water-cement ratio should be calculated and mixture test should be taken, to ensure the proper concrete be mixed.(3) Construction process. Measurement paying, reinforcement engineering, formwork engineering, concrete engineering are all should be controlled, especially the construction of formwork engineering, and concrete engineering, which can affect the surface of the concrete directly. Besides, concrete cracks should be controlled and the concrete should suit the various quality acceptance criteria.(4) Engineering application. Model wall construction simulation test and new technological innovation should be considered. During the design and construction period of Qingdao Zhuoting Plaza, new construction tools and methods are invented, problems are solved. The project has good quality, and gets good economic and social benefits.
