Railway wheel bearings are one of the most important parts ofrailway vehicles. Now, bearing inspection tools and methods of our countryare comparatively backward, and the mangement after inspection mostly ismanual control. Thus, subjective capriciousness is big and the automaticity islow, which seriously impact on the accuracy of bearing measurement andsystematicness of management. So the bearings can’t be optimally utilized.Although some repair factories use sensors to improve the measuringprecision, the measurement is a kind of assisted semi-automatic method,working intensity of examiners is still very high, data management is notstandard. On the other hand, this kind of railway vehicle bearing diametermeasuring equipment is special, it is difficult to buy in the market. It alsolimits some repair factories to improve their repair quality.According to the shortcomings of these bearing inner diametermeasurement and the existing problem in some repair factories. In this paper,with the aim of researching and implementing the railway bearing innerdiameter measurement system, the National Bureau of Quality Inspectionproject "The research of the big caliber bearing measurement device" asbackground, the successful design of the system are implemented. Mechanicalstructure of the system was designed as a form of stationary bearing andmovement measuring head. In order to solve the difficulties of bearing aimingat measuring head, designed a flexible platform audaciously. The steppingmotors drive the mechanical structure, it could position measuring head inbearing accurately. Use pneumatic measurement to measure the deviation ofbearing and standard checking rules, then amplify and transform to thediameter in computer. Principal computer software is developed by LabVIEW,it has some functions like login management, data reading, data analysis, andreport printing. The communication with measurement module used RS232 serial port.Lastly, we analyzed and estimated the fail safety of the whole system.We analyzed and calculated the measuring error, it was less than the minimummeasurement requirement error. Then we simulated the factory actualenvironment, the whole measurement system worked stable, reliable, and metthe requirement of factory.
