Rolling bearings are widely used in electromechanical equipments. Their performance isvital important to the equipments. Measuring and sorting needle rollers are the most importantprocesses for the assembly of rolling needle bearings. The accuracy of measuring and sortingwould influence the bearings' performance after assembled. In this paper,a method to sort thediameter of the bearing needle rollers in high precision and high speed is researched.For high-speed sorting of the diameter of the needle rollers, the rapid feeding and sortingmethod is chosen. At the same time, the way for signal acquisition and the way to drive thesystem have been optimized. So the time cost for the needle roller feeding, transportion,sorting and its diameter measuring has been shortened dramatically. The system designed inthis paper is composed of two parts: the mechanical part and, the measurement and controlpart.The mechanical part mainly includes the needle roller transportion mechanism, themeasurement mechanism and sorting mechanism. The needle rollers are transported by thetransportion mechanism driven by the servomotor in high speed in the way of intermittentrotation. Measure mechanism is used to fix the transducer and make fine adjustment. Theparallel spring is used to ensure the high precision. Needle roller sorting mechanism is drivenby rotary electromagnet and used to carry out the blanking and sorting of needle rollers inhigh speed .The design of the measurement and control part is based on Labview virtual instrumentplatform. We design the hardware and interface and write the measurement and controlprogram. The control of servomotor is implemented by motion-controlling card andservo-amplifier. Collection and transformation of the signal of the diameter of the needleroller is completed by the inductance sensor, inductance micrometer and the data acquisitioncard. And industrial computer is applied to control the actions of the system, to process thesignals and to make group judgement.According to the implementation scheme, a prototype has been developed. And itsmeasuring accuracy and sorting efficiency have been tested. The results show that theprototype could sort the needle rollers in the speed of 350 pieces per minute, and its repeataccuracy is±0.9μm. The main errors of the system were also analysed.
