Therefore, staircase is considered as an essential part in architectural structures.However, in the present housing structural design of China, only the floor openings and vertical load transfer of staircase has been taken into consideration, the interaction between staircase and the main structure under earthquake is often neglected. As a result, there exists a potential safety hazard in this kind of staircase components (structure) design.The May12th Wenchuan earthquake measuring8.0on the Richer scale has caused great damages. In the perspective of staircase, it has not play its due function and role as an important evacuation and escape passage. In most cases, the staircase suffered from serious damages before the main structure being damaged. This is run contrary to the structural design theory of staircase which is to make the staircase as an evacuation passage and a temporary refuge island under earthquake.This thesis will take Wenchuan earthquake as an example to analyze and summarize the earthquake damage of staircase. Meanwhile, the STRAT finite element analysis software will be used to analyze the seismic role the staircase played in the overall seismic action against earthquake of frame structure,the main content of this thesis includes:(1) The first chapter will give a brief introduction to the current design method of staircase structure and the section of staircase in "Partial Revision of Seismic Design of Buildings" released after the Wenchuan earthquake.(2) The second chapter will give a detailed introduction of the destruction of and the cause analysis of the staircase structure under the Wenchuan earthquake.(3) The third chapter introduces The Basic Theory of Seismic and the Analytical Method of Seismic Response of Multi-degree of Freedom System.(4) The fourth chapter established two models of framework, one with staircase and the other one without. Model Analysis and Response Spectrum Analysis are used in the analysis of these two models.
