In order to separate and divide the room in RC frames, masonry is required between columns, so as forming the masonry infilled RC frames structure. Existing research indicated that the masonry infilled RC frames greatly influences the frame structure on strength, stiffness and deformation. In Chinese seismic design code, it only provides the earthquake resistance constructional method, but the calculation method of the frame and masonry infilled working together. Based on the materials acquired from Hefei University of Technology Wenchuan Earthquake Building Damage Investigation Team in Sichuan Province, this dissertation induces the masonry infilled seismic damage phenomenon and failure characteristic, analyzes its failure mechanism and cause. Besides, it uses the equivalent diagonal strut to analyze two buildings, which were significantly impacted by masonry infilled and showed typical damage characteristic through Modal and Pushover method in the earthquake zone. The research indicated that the masonry infilled RC frames significantly increase the stiffness of the structure, reduce the structural nature period, and amplify the seismic effect. The inappropriate layout of the masonry may cause the structure torsion in plane or soft storey in vertical. Moreover, the appropriate layout of the masonry could prevent or reduce the damage of the main structure, by breaking at the beginning of earthquake, absorbing a lot of earthquake energy and restraint the deformation, and improve the comprehensive seismic performance of buildings.
