The Wenchuan Earthquake causes tremendous losses, which also tests the Chinese buildings design codes. After the disaster, the seismic damage analysis will provide full and accurate reference to earthquake seismic in the future, and supply materials perfecting structure seismic design method. Some damage phenomena are rarely exposed in the earthquake happened before or caused great concerns in the past. According to the materials collected from the seismic investigation, the dissertation classifies the damage phenomena of staircase system and analyzes it by finite element method of frame structure. This article thoroughly discusses the damage reasons of ladder board, column, platform beam, plate and etc in the stair system. By the finite element software, the results of elastic and plastic analysis prove the failure mechanism of various components. At last gives suggestions and details of seismic design for the damage position.Besides, based on the inductive analysis of damage phenomena in masonry building with frame-wall at bottom, the paper explains some phenomena, such as the slump of the frame at bottom, the lateral deformation, destruction of frame-walls at bottom and destruction of columns at bottom and etc. At the same time, emphatically analyzes some phenomena, which should be concerned, for example, the switching of weak story and the damage of haunched beams or columns in masonry building with frame-wall at bottom. This paper simplifies calculation for the determination of lateral stiffness of the building. In addition, using material mechanics method discusses and analyzes the reason of plastic hinge switching around haunched beams or columns.
