Sealing is an important area of modern engineering technology, the effectiveness of the sealing structure largely determines the safety and reliability of the entire system, to seek economic and effective sealing device has become the main topics of designers in the sealing area. Knife-edge type metal sealing flange structure (called knife-edge seal for short) has a simple constitution and high sealing performance, usually used in the metal containers with high tightness requirements. On the basis of researching the knife-edge seal structure comes from a kind of Dangerous goods packaging container in depth, this paper took finite element numerical simulation as a means, combined with robust optimal design method, optimized the structure, and a set of more reasonable design parameters are obtained.Firstly, obtained the effective seal condition of knife-edge seal after analyzing the basic conditions of metal flat gasket seal, which was the precondition for FEM numerical simulation tests, the effective sealing surface width and the maximum contact pressure become the major standards for evaluating different shape of sealing structures.Secondly, through the numerical simulation of the single factor analysis, the relation curves between design parameters of the seal structure and evaluation index of sealing performance are obtained. Based on the results of the numerical simulation, a reasonable range for each design parameter is achieved respectively. On this basis, uniform design numerical tests were performed in FEA software, the second-order polynomials which reflect the relation between design parameters and sealing capability were fitted by the simulation results. Genetic algorithm was applied to seek the single-objective and multi-objective global optimized results.Finally, consider the uncertainty disturbance of design parameters, a robust design optimization method is proposed. The sensitivity items of objective function and constrains are established in addition to the primary mathematic model of optimization, transformed the model into a robust optimization model, by solving the functions, a set of design parameters which were more reasonable are obtained, which provided references to the design of sealing structure of the kind of dangerous goods packaging container.
