The light gauge steel stud wall is widely used in low-rise residentialbuilding both in European and America, but the promotion of it in ourcountry is just beginning, researches on its behavior are insufficient, andcorrelative code or design basis are absent. In this paper, the shearproperties of low rise light-gauge steel stud residential is studied by finiteelement on numerical simulation analysis, the hysteretic behavior and theearthquake resistance of compound wall in the integral behavior oflow-rise light gauge steel stud structure is explored. At first, the shear behavior of the light-gauge steel stud wall issimulated by comparing on the correlative experiment. Based on thereferences and the parameters of materials provided by professionalmanufacturers, the finite element model of the compound wall issimulated by constantly changing the boundary condition and loadingregime. Validate the reliability of the model by compare the failuremodes and carrying capacity between the model and experiment. Secondly,to provide basis for subsequent research, different influence factors of theshear behavior of such compound wall is studied. Thirdly, pertinencymethods of reinforcements of such compound walls are provided on thebasis of the failure modes to take full advantage of the skin effect. Then, different influence factors of the hysteretic behavior of light-gauge steelwalls are studied. At last, on the basis of before-mentioned research ofhysteretic behavior, the model of low-rise light-gauge steel stud building issimulated to study the mode of vibration and the natural frequency ofvibration. Nanjing earthquake wave is used in research of the earthquakeresistance of the whole low-rise building. Also, the affect of different sizesof planes of the building and damps are studied in earthquake resistancewithin the limits of criterion.
