In this new era of the "sensitive consumption" as the basic characteristics,consumersdon’t only have the car as a means of transport, but also pay more attention to obtainself-satisfaction, the expression of personality and a sense of pleasure for using through thecar. Consumers began to pursue a car and the ideal self-concept for coinciding. In today’s eraof automotive oversupply products, automobile companies should understand the sensitiveneeds of consumers so as to evoke deep-seated desire of consumers’ buy desire,and then carswill stand out from lots of consumer’s choices.Kansei Engineering is a technology that can translate the consumer’s sensibility to theelements of product design, aimming to explore the people’s sensitive response towardsproducts and translate to the elements of product design. Therefore, Kansei Engineering isa very effective solution for consumers’ emotional needs of automotive styling.In this paper, firstly, the style of the image caused by perceptual was studied, therelationship between the styling features of image and shape was analysised. The principlewas extractted according to main features of car styling which creatted from four points.Secondly, the sensibility of measurement and quantitative methods of the emotionengineering were studied, the experimental sample and the extraction method of emotionalwords were proposed to establish the mathematical model and mathematical model forprediction score that used to calculate the correlation with the perceptual image and amongthe design elements, even built the process that applicate emotion engineering for car formresearch.Finally, This process was used to study five groups of perceptual image about the sportutility vehicles, that is "masculine-soft""a sense of movement-still feeling""graceful-rough""avant-garde-old-fashioned""dignified-elegant". Based on experimental result toanalysis quantitative data and get the relationship between the five perceptual images anddesign elements. Summed up five perceptual-themed design means and methods about theside style of the sport utility vehicle, and applicated predictive models of the Volvo XC60toproject sentimental side styling image.From this paper,the Styling of the car process which based on Kansei Engineeringprovide a reference for the follow-up study, the research results can be further used to create the emotion engineering system of automotive styling.
