Mass customization combines the advantages of production mode of custom productionand mass production. It is able to maintain low production cost when meet customer needs atthe same time. It has become an important production mode and been widely used in variousfields. Many solutions about product family design based on product platform were proposed,the core of which is product platform planning.Through analyzing current researches and problems, a methodology of scalable productplatform planning was proposed based on sensitivity analysis in this dissertation. In-depthresearch was done on the methods and key technologies of the product platform planning. Themain research work includes four aspects as follows:First, the core issues of the mass customization were studied, which includes productfamily design, product platform design and evaluation and selection of product platform design.Second, the basic concepts and common planning process of product platforms wereinvestigated. Scalable platform planning model based on sensitivity analysis was proposed. Thecore problems and corresponding solutions were also discussed.Third, the product optimization design based on an improved integer coding geneticalgorithm was studied. Usually, an integer-coded-based genetic algorithm can’t cover thecircumstances that evalues of design variables eis rounded, having different intervals andhaving to satisfy some constraints at the same time. So, an improved integer coding geneticalgorithm was proposed. A bridge crane girder optimization model was constructed, and thealgorithm was also verified.Fourth, hierarchical clustering was employed for product clustering. Platform parameterswere determined by sensitivity analysis. Several product platforms can be planned by the method. Product recombining process is product platform planning process, also is productdesign process in product family. The crane instance was used as an example to verify thevalidity of the planning method.Fifth, a system architecture of scalable product platform planning for crane was discussed.The system was developed after requirements analysis and functional modular design.
