The holding pole is a kind of special hoisting machine, it is widely used in theelectric industry. In the construction process of an arc bridge over Yangtze River inHejiang, Sichuan, the holding pole is introduced into bridge engineering for thefirst time. It is made for assembling and hoisting buckle towers. Because of thehigh security requirements for the holding pole, it is indispensable to domechanical analysis in depth before design and use.The3-D model of the180m high holding pole is constructed with ANSYS.First of all, for the structure system, the change laws of whole displacement and thestress distribution of each element are summarized under several different typicalload cases. Then, the bearing behaviors of all elements are studied under differentworking conditions. Finally, the bearing laws of inner guy wires, waist ropes andanchor ropes are analyzed. The results show that the whole displacement of theholding pole is larger in the huge wind conditions. The stress near the joint of thelower frame and rocker arms is the largest, where the phenomenon of stressconcentration exists. The axial force of vertical members is bigger, and the axialforce of lateral and inclined members is relatively smaller. The tension of eachwaist ropes gradually becomes greater and greater from the bottom to the top. Thetension of inner guy wires and anchor ropes in the opposite side of the hoistingrocker is larger. The wind-induced response of the20m long rocker is studied. Fluctuatingwind load of the long rocker in the largest working height is simulated withMATLAB. The time-history of fluctuating wind load is applied to this structure byAPDL technology of ANSYS. Newmark-β method is adopted to solve this problem. The results show that the wind-induced response of No.20981node in the outer endof the longer rocker is obvious. The biggest displacement response is0.493562m.The biggest acceleration response is0.233967m/s2. The analytical results play adirect role for the construction scheme of assembling and hoisting buckle towers.Via the research of load effect rule and wind-induced response for the holding pole, the conclusions may be used as references for the design and construction ofsimilar engineering projects.
