To a large extent, the friction-wear resistance of cylinder liner piston ring has a greateffect on the function and reliability of diesel engine. Along with the improvedrequirements on energy saving, low emission and high reliability of modern diesel engine,it is stricter for piston ring. And the locomotive diesel engine failures caused by pistonring have increased obviously. Researching on the rules of friction-wear of cylinder pistonring has an important meaning to reduce the occurrence of piston ring friction-wear andimprove life cycle time and service efficiency of diesel engine. In this article, the author uses the CETR (UMT-II) type multi-functional friction-weartesting equipment and SRV-IV type micro frictional abrasion tester to simulate doing thefriction-wear resisting and anti-agglutination ability test of cylinder liner piston ring.Through the comparative analysis of test results, the author concludes a friction-wearmechanism of piston ring and chooses the chromium ceramic composite coating as thematerial which has the best abrasion resistance and anti-agglutination ability. From themicrostructure structure itself, the author draws a conclusion that the high hardness ofchromium layer, the well friction-wear resisting characteristic of ceramics droplets, andthe unique layer network structure (oil storage micro pore) are the direct reasons why thechromium ceramic composite coating has the best abrasion resistance and anti-agglutination ability.Based on the test and analysis, the author also takes the VV type testing and evaluation tochromium ceramic composite coating and makes the actual assessment in HXN5typediesel locomotive. Good operation and excellent assessment results provide a powerfulvalidation and support to the conclusion the author has.
