The electromagnetic railgun is a new concept weapon; its technology hasimmeasurable application potential not only in the military field, but also in aviation,aerospace, transportation, industrial production, scientific research and other fields. Thedeveloped countries take seriously and study deeply from the strategic height.The important parameters of electromagnetic railgun are the important measures toimprove projectile launching velocity. To get the target, the armature movement model ofthe railgun is established, and optimization calculation with the optimization method.First, this paper introduces the working principle, the important parameters and thebasic structure of the railgun on the basics, the armature movement model of the railgun isestablished. Both The important parameters including the drive current of the railgun andplasma armature force are studied. At the same time, the inductance gradient which canreflect the essence of the electromagnetic railgun is in-depth studied. And the parametervalues that make the inductance gradient bigger could be simulation calculated.Secondly, According to the armature movement model of the railgun, determine theequation of armature speed to regard as the objective function. The track pitch, tracks ofhigh and armature running time are regarded as the first design variables; charging voltageand rail length are regarded as the second design variables. They are fine-tuning calculatedrespectively with Rosenbroke method and Genetic Algorithm, and make analysis for theoptimization result.Finally, the optimizations result find the drive current and inductance gradient areimportant factors to restrict the armature speed, which will lead to the increase of thearmature speed by their increase. The optimization values (the track pitch, tracks of highand armature running time) will reduce with inductance gradient increase. To achieve thepurpose of improving projectile launcher speed with adjusting the drive current,inductance gradient, the track pitch and tracks of high. It is important especially thatthree-dimensional optimization is more close to reality than two-dimensional about optimization calculation of the railgun.
