With the rapid development of bridge engineering, the problem of the seismicresistance of long-period continuous girder bridge is growing concern. The seismicperformance of bridges can be improved greatly via seismic isolation. Lead rubberbearing with GAP and Lead rubber bearing (LRB) isolations are mixed-used on the northbranch south approach bridge of Xiazhang cross-sea bridge. In comparison with the leadrubber bearing, a large quantity of calculation and theoretical analysis are carried out toshow the validity of the Lead rubber bearing with GAP. The main research contents areas follows:First, show the significance of the research on the seismic isolation technology usedin bridge and different isolation bearings. As the characteristics of Xiazhang cross-seabridge, introduce the new isolation bearing-Lead rubber bearing with GAP.Second, simulate the finite element model of the north branch south approach bridgeof Xiazhang cross-sea bridge by the finite element program ANSYS. With the use ofLead rubber bearing with GAP, a large number of nonlinear time-history of seismicallyisolated continuous girder bridges were conducted. Then, compare the reduction effectand optimize the installed schemes of the common seismic isolation devices.Third, use the MIDAS Civil to build up the element analysis model of the construction.Analyze the additional force and additional moment at the bottom of pier, due to concretecreep and shrinkage and temperature change. At last, based on the conclusions, somesuggestions are presented.Though calculation, the conclusion following is gained: first, Lead rubber bearingwith GAP and Lead rubber bearing (LRB) isolations are mixed-used, the shear force andthe moment of the pile base has reduced to a great extent, and the transversal is obvious;second, with the use of Lead rubber bearing with GAP, the additional force at the bottomof pier is reduced. Facing earthquake, it makes the bridge more rational with excellentseismic absorption.
