Study On Design And Practice Of Industrial Wasteland Landscape Regeneration

With the advent of post-industrial age, the world’s economic structurehas changed dramatically. Information industry-dominant new industry isgoing to replace the traditional manufacturing industry gradually, manytraditional industrial areas have been leave unused and abandoned. Theestablishment of a practicable theoretical system for the landscape design ofindustrial wasteland, is used to instruct the landscape design of industrialwasteland; and to effectively solve the common environmental problems ofthe current industrial wasteland, so that the once-abandoned land canbecome available land resources. This has significant value for improvingthe urban living environments, maintaining the context spirit of places, andprotecting the historical heritage.In this paper, a variety of analytical methods have been used, such ascomparative study, the combination of induction and deduction andcombining theory with practice. The main results and conclusions are asfollows:(1) Summarized four features of the following aspects of industrial wasteland, such as the temporal and geographical features, visual andlandscape features, natural and ecological features. What’s more, from thefollowing factors, e.g. industrial economic factors, social environmentalfactors and historical cultural factors, we analyzed the promoted reasons fortransformation and regeneration of industrial wasteland. Furthermore, wesort out the development course of transformation and regeneration ofindustrial wasteland.(2) Analyzed some classic cases of landscape design of industrialwasteland in the United States, Germany, France and South Korea and othercountries. On the basis of this, we summed up and conclude some features offoreign industrial wasteland design and the enlightenment of transformationand regeneration of industrial wasteland in China.(3) Analyzed the background of disposing of industrial wastelands inour country, summed up the status of these wastelands’ locations, andintroduced some practical landscape designs of our country’s wastelandsfrom many ways such as economic structure, industrial structure, recessionsof resourceful cities and industrial bases, needs of cityview improvementand attempts at strengthening realization of ecological environmentprotection.(4) Proposed theoretical system of landscape design for industrial wasteland, the main idea is as follows: respect the spirit of place andcontinue the historical context; return to localism and follow the naturalevolution; design with ecology and build economically and appropriately;combine the olds with the news and harmonious coexistence. Thedesign-with-ecology method focus on the following aspects, such as theecological restoration of soil and vegetation selection, water purification andecological restoration, as well as wastes disposal and recycling.
