To reduce the cost of the produce and supply of the electricity and to optimize theresources, the distributed generation (DG) technology has become a hot research spot. Thehuge amounts of the DG have played significant impacts on the stable operation of themain grid. And the energy storage devices have played an important role to ensure the DGaccess to main grid. That’s why we should make a deep research of its mechanism. On theother hand, it’s also very important to select proper capacity of the DG and energy storageto ensure the stable operation of the whole system and also fit for the economicrequirement.This paper firstly built the simulation model of the DG and VRB. Based on this modelthe output and charge discharge characteristics were studied. Then the model of Microgridwas built based on the Benchmark Network. Finally these simulation models were used tostudy the mechanism of the stable operation of Microgrid.This paper also discussed the maximum capacity of the DG. The wind farm securitycapacity was obtained by analyzing the transient characteristics of wind farm during faultsoccurred. Meanwhile the impact of the energy storage to increase the wind farm securitycapacity was also researched in the study case.This paper focused to study the optimization method of capacity of energy storage tosaticify the stable operation of the DG system. A new method based on the Rolling AverageAlgorithm was proposed to find the object power output and optimal capacity of energystorage. The capacity determined by this method was much smaller than the traditional wayand can be cooperated with other generation units in the grid. Then the charge-dischargecontrol method based on CPSO was proposed to ensure the output power of the energystorage to follow the target power curves. Finally based on these optimization algorithmsthe Energy Storage Capacity Optimization Software was designed and developed.
