A road network with reasonable structure, full functions and enough capacity will be animportant foundation for the sustainable development of urban transportation. The importantthing in planning and designing road network is that to choose a reasonable road networkaccording to the main means of transportation. In order to face the challenge of high-speedurbanization and mechanization as well as considering resources conservation, Thegovernments strongly advocates Bus priority strategy. Now, many cities in our country areimplementing bus and slow traffic priority to ease traffic congestion, but how and really torealize it, how to cohere with road network, is a problem that is exigent to be solved. It is alsothe starting point of the study.Firstly, the article analyzes the evolution of Planning Ideas about road network from thecar for the lead to the public transit and slow traffic. It expounds the theoretical basis of thetwo kind of ideas, and analyzes the typical road network of some cities, then draws aconclusion that the road network mode considering public transit and slow traffic is benefitfor the city traffic sustainable development.Secondly, the article analyzes the road network hierarchy. Based on the existing researchand classification, the paper proposes a new partitioning method, which combines with publictransit and slow traffic, to classify the express way, arterial road, sub-arterial road, branch as8detailed kinds. Finally, the road network formed the passenger corridor making up withpublic transit and slow traffic system.Thirdly, the article analyzes the road network topology. It states the advantages of themesh network structure at the principle of the public transit and slow traffic for the lead, andproposes related design principles. At the same time, the paper classifies the road networkinto8typical Road types considering the public transit and slow traffic to accommodatethe road network topology design.Fourthly, the article analyzes the road network layout. It summarizes the index ofcorrelation of road network layout, introduces some design principles of road network layoutand proposes8kinds of transverse section in order to provide reference for Traffic planners. In addition, the article also uses traffic calming measures to Reduction of Impact of traffic of residential district. At the last, the article summarizes its research achievements, research shortcomings andher research directions.
