After the establishment of People’s Republic of China, Chinesemetrology developed into a new stage. It realized the unification ofmetrological system during1950s. As the economic and business center ofChina, Shanghai’s practice how to unify the metrological system wasrepresentative and embodied the characters in the unifying process ofChinese metrology. The research of the process of the unifying ofShanghai metrological system is helpful to learn the metrological evolutionof the whole country metrological. On the other hand, Shanghai has itsown features in the unifying process because of the particularity ofeconomy and social development of it.This thesis neatens the unifying process of metrological system ofShanghai in1950s by analyzing documentaries and cases, finds out thecharacters and patterns, and concludes that the unifying of Shanghaimetrological system was pushed by the need of city development and national policy. On one hand, the unifying of Shanghai metrologicalsystem was pushed by national metrology policies, depending on powerfulexternal strength; on the other hand, the development of Shanghai was theinternal impetus of metrological revolution, which was the reason why thenational policy of metrological system was executed so efficiently andsuccessfully, and presented its own pattern. In this process, themetrological unifying in commerce and trade area was finished byadministrative promotion from top to bottom in a short time, and themetrological unifying in industry was promoted by building upmetrological organization and developing products and technology. Theunification of metrological system in Shanghai laid down solid foundationsof the progress of economy and science of the city.
