Air highway is different from the ordinary route which we always talk about. It is anindependent, one-way, without intersection, high-speed and convenient route which isprovided for long-distance, high-performance aircrafts. Three aspects of air highway areresearched: air highway network hub choosing, the design of air highway network and theoperation mode of air highway to improve the operating efficiency of China’s airspace system,as well as to provide theoretical reference for optimization of the entire air highway and theoperation of the air highway system. The main work of the paper is as follows:1) The hubs’ selection of air highway: based on taking into account the three aspectsthat are airport throughput, degree centrality and regional importance, the method ofmulti-objective decision is applied to establish the model of hubs’ selection, and the methodwhich combines the heuristic search with greedy algorithm is designed to solve the model, thenational airport data is introduced to get the selection results, which are analyzed andsummarized at last.2) The design and optimization of air highway network: three key issues of the design ofair highway network that are the position settings of air highway, entrance and exit points ofhighway and air highway network optimization are computed and simplified using the centerof gravity method, Floyd algorithm and so on, based on the nationwide airport statistics, thenational air highway network architecture is achieved.3) The research on operation mode and flow model of air highway: the two possibleroute modes that are single route and parallel routes are defined. In single route, based on thefeatures of the flow, the hydrodynamic model which is unified with the followingphenomenon is established in order to simulate the blocking phenomenon and groomingbehavior in route. In parallel routes, considering the relationship between lane changingaircraft and another aircraft, lane changing model is established based on the safe distance,which is simulated and analyzed.
