In the field of green lighting, as an efficient and economical gas-discharge lightsource, fluorescent lamp has been developed rapidly since its inception, and itsapplications have been more and more widely. And as the green lighting project hasbeen vigorously promoted and implemented in China, the design and study ofhigh-performance electronic ballast which is matched to the energy-saving lamps hasbecome a hot spot.Based on the project “Theoretical Study on the Key Technologies and Design ofElectronic Ballast Control IC”, the design of an adaptive ballast control IC XD0760isdescribed in the paper.XD0760is an adaptive ballast controller and600V half-bridge driver forfluorescent lamp lighting. It includes voltage-controlled oscillator, under-voltagelockout circuit, bootstrap MOSFET, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) circuit and so on.There is a built-in15.4V zener diode on the pin VCC, and the high side circuit issupplied by floating power. The heart of the IC is the voltage-controlled oscillator, theminimum operating frequency of which can be programmed by adjusting the externalresistor on the pin FMIN. The preheating time of fluorescent lamp can beenprogrammed by adjusting the external capacitance on the pin VCO. After the IC ispowered on, it has four working statuses: under-voltage lockout mode, frequencysweeping mode, normal operating mode and fault mode. By the operating of the IC, thepreheating, ignition and normal operation of fluorescent lamp can been realized. At thesame time, the electronic ballast devices are also been protected.Based on0.5μm BCD process, the whole performance of the IC and the functionsof the sub-circuits have been verified by simulation tool Cadence. Simulation resultsshow that the IC can meet the design requirements.
