Recently, several power system faults caused a lot of loss. And the study of power system fault diagnosis becomes a hot topic. After the fault, the quick and accurate diagnosis of fault type and finding the positions of power system fault are very important. There are kinds of power system faults and many methods for Power system fault diagnosis. In this paper, we have studied the fault phase (fault type identification) and the fault diagnosis (fault identification documents). The detail work is as follows:1. Introduce the background of power system fault diagnosis and a variety of methods of fault diagnosis in power system fault diagnosis2. Research the Model and the process of power system fault diagnosis. After this, we learn Transient changes and the impact of short-circuit fault on the system though MATLAB simulation.3. Introduce the Genetic algorithm (GA), and know haat GA transforms fault diagnosis problem into0,1integer programming problem, and then solves it using optimization algorithms. It is a mature power system fault diagnosis method, and has been applied to the actual system. Examples show that this approach has good ability to handle complex fault condition, and have good application prospects.4. Research the single phase to ground fault course of Small Current Grounding System,and analyzes the steady and transient process of the small currentgrounded power system,especially details on the resonance-grounded powersystem.Finally we introduce how to select fault line through simulation.5. Design a fault monitoring and diagnosis of platforms of a small ring of open power system, it include the structural design and the electricity network topology design.in this platform, we get the data by the data acquisition card. Examples are also given to show that the GA method has good ability to handle complex fault condition.
