Switched reluctance motor (SR motor) is a mechatronic system, ithas many fine features, but the larger vibration and noise restrict its wideapplication. The focus of this study is on low torque ripple and noise ofthe SR motor. To reduce the large torque ripple and noise in the SRmotor, it seeks from two aspects of the motor body structure design andSR motor control technology in this paper. First, it designs a8/6SRmotor prototype whose power is0.55KW and includes the electromagn-etic calculation of the prototype by ANSOFT Software. Secondly, theeffects of the vibration and noise about body structure and structuralparameters of the SR motor are discussed. The optimizations of thewinding connection way, winding turns, air gap size, the stator outerdiameter or rotor’s are to reduce the torque ripple and suppress the noise. The radial force simulation of the designed prototype finds that theradial force is a force which cyclically changes with the switch on andoff, the radial force causes shell stator deformation, This vibrationcaused by the deformation is in association with the stator naturalfrequency, at the same time, Taking into account this requirement oftime parameter with two-step Commutation method and three-stepcommutation method,in order to avoid that the resonance phenomenonthat radial force harmonics and the stator natural frequency is the sameoccurs, The stator modal is analyzed and the stator frequency ofmulti-step mode is clear. It provids the necessary conditions for furtherstudy between two-step Commutation method and three-step commutati-on method. It describes the modeling method which calculated the magnetizati-on data of the SR motor and the torque-angle data in the static state byANSOFT software and creates a nonlinear model of the SR motorthrough the establishment of two-dimensional look-up table in thesimulink software. It builds a dynamic model of direct torque controlabout SR motor in MATLAB and introduces the sliding mode variable structure control in the speed closed-loop simulation. After the systemsimulation of the speed and torque, the simulation results show that theproposed method can have the smaller torque ripple and less noise.
