Switched Reluctance Motor is a novel motor which grew up in 1980s. It has simple structure, low cost, high efficiency compared with conventional motors. Nowadays it is widely providing to traffic & transportation, common industry, aviation, electrical appliance, and etc. It shows strong market competitiveness compared with other motors. But it can produce excessive vibration and acoustic noise because of its double sided configuration and working mode, which limits SRM applications in other fields. So this paper aims at academic research and practice of SRM vibration and acoustic noise. The noise mechanism of SRM is analyzed, and then electromagnetic noise, mechanical noise and aerodynamic noise are discussed. Then, mode frequencies of stators and rotors are calculated with ANSYS software.Sound pressure levels, sound power levels and vibration levels are tested for SRM with different rotations and different loads by sound intensity technique, sound pressure and vibration velocity as minor. The relationship between noise and ratatons & loads is analyzed. The main noise source of the SRM is identified.Rotors slots of the SRM are sealed by epoxy resin. Then, much work is done, such as trying on the epoxy resin formulation, designing epoxying resin casting processing, designing sealed fixture. To prove the noise reduction effect of sealed the rotors slots, the test is done again so that practice experience is supplied for SRM vibration and acoustic noise reduction.
