As an industrial waste slag, steel slag's physical performance is similar to natural stone; it is a kind of fine road aggregate. However,because of its disadvantage of water swelling greatly limit promotion and application in road works. In our country,the slag that produced largely,recycled lowly and polluted seriously,so we hope that more and more slag apply to the road work safely and economically. This paper, we used slag in Yunnan Anning areas as research object, and discussed the performance of slag pavement materials. In order to better apply of steel slag to the local road construction in Yunnan.On the way of systematical experiment, author performed the following aspects,①Analysis of the physical nature, mineral composition, expansion and advantages and disadvantages of slag.②According to a certain percentage .we put steel slag and crushed stone mix into inorganic binder.7d of unconfined compressive strength as a reference; we can get the reasonable content of cement, slag and gravel. And then according to the optimized ratio, we did the research of physical mechanical properties and shrinkage test of cement steel slag rubble.③As aggregate,we exploited the three kinds of Steel slag asphalt mixture,the names were S-ATB25,S-AC13,S-SMA10 and their road performance of them were researched;④according to the property of steel slag that a lot of hole on its surface and asphalt were absorded in its,we exploited a method that calculate the valid asphalt and revise the c value.The results show that:①The physical indictors of slag in an ning area meet to relevant regulatory requirements. Bulk density and water absorption of slag were more than gravel.②f-Cao contend is 0.61% smaller than 3%, and the flooding expansion is 1.06% smaller than 2%, both of them meet the requirement of specification.③The best dosage of grave is 40% expansion of slag have certain shrinkage of the role of compensation and mitigation on the semi-rigid base material.④The slag surface covered with pores, and was adsorption of large number of asphalt. Therefore, the OAC of S-ATB25, S-AC13, S-SMA10 were 5.0%, 5.6%and 6.6%, and higher than 0.5% to 1% with the same level of gravel.⑤According to the effective density and Gse = Gsb + C×(Gsa -Gsb) , the value of C was 0.47 to 0.53.⑥The flooding expansion of Steel slag asphalt concrete meets to the relevant regulatory requirements, and showed that the stability of slag was well.⑦According to the rutting test, test and freeze-thaw test, high temperature performance and water stability were so better that can meet to the relevant regulatory requirements.And frost resistance,skid resistance and impermeability were so well too.In this paper, application, economic benefits, social benefitsand environmental impact of slag using in the highway were also analyzed and probed,so that can contribute to the further promotion and application of steel slag.
